Junior Achievement USA (JA) is the largest organization dedicated to educating students in grades K through 12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy. JA programs are taught by volunteers from the business community who partner with teachers in the classroom. Founded in 1919, JA USA has reached 79,418,752 students throughout the United States. Its purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.
Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut was founded in 1946, and since that time has reached nearly 300,000 students in the communities it serves. It is governed by a Board of Directors with the support of area community boards and raises all of its own dollars through foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, individual gifts and special events.
During 2011-2012, 22,223 students participated in the myriad in-school and after-school programs offered by Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut. Those programs operated in 95 individual schools, 7 afterschool agencies, and 1,001 classes through the generosity of nearly 1,318 volunteers from throughout the region.
